Organic chocolates: Why should we have them?



In ancient times the Maya considered chocolate as the,  “Food of the Gods''. Cocoa bean is one of the best known sources of dietary polyphenols, containing more phenolic antioxidants than most foods. Dark chocolate has become very popular for its high concentrations of cocoa.

Organic chocolate is manufactured using sustainable cocoa beans. The production of cocoa is done without the use of pesticides and fertilisers. They can be classified into dark, white, milk and others. The driving factors for their market increase is due to increasing demand for clean labelled products and escalating health consciousness among the consumers. According to market research the Indian chocolate market is estimated at $1687.23 million in 2022 and is expected to grow.

Some of the bean to bar chocolates in India are ‘Kocoatrait; whose packages are made from reclaimed cocoa shells so that you can compost the packaging after consuming, ‘Born truth’ which has about 14 detectable choco bars, Pascati is USA organic and Fairtrade certified is from Kerala; Mason and Co is from Pondicherry and many more. The organic chocolate market is expanding especially after the covid-19 which made people aware of their health.
