Recent Korean fiction has captivated audiences on a large scale with its zombie apocalypse. Too many opine that these ideas and notions seem like fiction, but if we carefully observe the possibility of a real-life zombie situation or an apocalypse, then what should be on our priority list? Is it learning various new courses that are introduced by AI or ancient survival skills?
If we look at the most recent COVID-19 pandemic, which was predicted in the past, it tells us otherwise and that it is unwise to dismiss such scenarios outright. We need to differentiate between fiction and reality carefully, depending upon various scientific evidence and after having evaluated all the calculations for the likelihood of such events.
The Awakening of the Rotting Corpses
Such stories are shown in various movies, television series, and even literature focusing on corpses eating humans alive. There has been a recent upsurge in the section of the population that is extremely inclined towards thrilling entertainment, probably for the adrenaline. These mindless creatures with an insatiable hunger for human flesh not only offer interesting narratives, but they are also exploring the themes of love, humanity, survival, and morality. Fans across the globe participate in online communities and dedicate their time to discussing the theories and episodes related to zombie franchises. The fascination of youngsters with the concept of evolution and the existence of zombies has made various franchises, TV shows, and production houses successful. These movies and television series have captivated youngsters so much that they have started talking about the existence of these zombies in reality. It is not wrong to say that these movies and television series certainly lack a scientific foundation. Zombies shown on television defy the laws of nature because they rely on living humans. Hence, the possibility of such an event occurring is extremely low if we consider the aforementioned notion along with the fact that these topics are often based on evidence, and no such evidence has been encountered on the planet yet.
Valuable Lessons from COVID-19:
The recent COVID-19 pandemic serves as a perfect example of how a virus outbreak can have a huge impact on global health. We have all seen how this virus sabotaged the entire planet. There are various YouTube videos available that confirm that this pandemic was predicted earlier and also pave the way for other potential apocalyptic events to happen. Experts all over the globe have long warned us about the possibility of such an infectious disease outbreak and its possible impact on the globe. However, the likelihood of COVID-19, SARS, and other such pandemics, which mankind has already witnessed caused by highly contagious viruses, is on the higher side than witnessing animated corpses or mythical creatures on the face of Earth. All these above-mentioned pandemics have their seeds deep buried in historical instances like the Spanish influenza pandemic in 1918. It is rather thrilling or fun to think about preparing for a Zombie invasion, but it is essential to think critically in advance for any such pandemic. A real-world crisis like COVID-19 has taught us how to be prepared and resilient for any such potential challenge in the future.
Scientific Evidence and Realistic Assessments:
To consider whether such a demoralising zombie plague can befall humanity, we will have to look at the various laws of biology, physics, and human behaviour. To evaluate the probability of a zombie apocalypse, it is crucial to rely on scientific indications and critical thinking. The laws of biology, physics, and human behaviour provide no support for the existence of zombies. We have no scientific evidence of any such virus originating in the history of time that can transmit and create the possibility of such an apocalypse. We may have had various examples of cannibal acts throughout history involving the consumption of human flesh. I find it difficult to draw lines between cannibalism and the behaviour patterns of zombies. But we cannot deny the fact that having multiple such cases of cannibalism where humans suffer from schizophrenia or other similar mental disorders can lead to the origination of a virus that can transmit over a large section of the population and make them the walking dead to feed on humans. Jeffrey Dahmer, Albert Fish, Issei Sagawa, and Andreas Munch were the individuals who were involved in cannibalism because they were suffering from one or another of these mental disorders. They murdered their victims as they were suffering from various personality disorders and other mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and possible psychosis, due to which they behaved insanely and were involved in acts of cannibalism. We too have historical evidence of some tribes that have practised cannibalism in the past due to various reasons, such as religious rituals, cultural beliefs, vengeance, etc.
Preparing for Emergencies
Although the odds of a zombie apocalypse are distant, it is sensible to be vigilant about calamities in particular. Natural catastrophes, pandemics, and other unanticipated catastrophes can have a big impact on our lives. Having emergency plans, and supplies, and staying informed are essential to mitigate the potential consequences of any crisis. Public awareness and education for the early detection of any such disease are crucial, as a well-planned healthcare system, law enforcement, and comprehensive emergency strategies are required. Our experts must encourage such scientific researchers to develop a detailed understanding of the possible threats in the future and the treatment options in collaboration with various international governments and pharmaceutical companies to develop therapies and vaccines. The Quarantine protocol is another effective measure to contain any such pandemic. Furthermore, various media houses can also play an important role in spreading reliable information without creating panic by avoiding sensationalism. Planning always helps human civilization handle and mitigate real-life challenges, whether they are infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, or any other unforeseen event.
AI, or self-defence techniques
Ancient self-defence techniques, such as martial arts training, are essentially important to safeguard against zombie assaults. These skills have been passed down through generations and are crucial for the survival of human civilization. Various techniques, such as striking grappling, bypassing and evasion, can be helpful against such possible threats in challenging situations. On the contrary, AI can help us analyse environmental conditions to accurately predict natural disasters and, hence, help in planning strategies to safeguard humanity. Furthermore, robots with artificial intelligence can also be used for various tasks such as building houses, transporting goods and people to safe zones, and even combating zombies, thus reducing human casualties. It is safe to say that we must endure a combination of both ancestral knowledge of survival skills and modern technology to save humanity from real-world threats.
Conclusion
In the dominion of fiction, the likelihood of apocalyptic scenarios such as zombie uprisings is scary. However, when examining these concepts through the lens of scientific evidence and realistic assessments, they remain firmly in the realm of fiction. The COVID-19 pandemic is distinct from fictional scenarios and should not be used as evidence for the likelihood of supernatural or mythical events. While it is wise to be prepared for emergencies, it is crucial to base our preparations on convincing information and scientific knowledge rather than fictional tales.
