The Weight of Freedom | A Poem by Sneha Narayanan

We are made to feel guilty

for the things we do,

and those we don’t.

For being too much,

for being not enough.

Married too young?

Shame.

Never married?

Shame again.

Stop teaching us shame for your sins,

while you walk away free.

Truth is, we are guilty

for simply existing.

Bound in cages of quiet shame,

for daring to be:

women,

alive,

unapologetic.
