Piyali Mitra, a distinguished editor and researcher in the field of bioethics, has been nominated for the Tribute Global Digi Awards for Women 2025 in the Excellence in Bioethics and Public Philosophy categoryRecognized for her impactful contributions to ethical research and interdisciplinary dialogue, Piyali's nomination highlights her dedication to shaping discussions on biotechnology, AI, medicine, healthcare, and environmental ethics.

As the Deputy Editor of the prestigious Asian Bioethics Review, published under the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Biomedical Ethics, Piyali has played a pivotal role in fostering ethical discourse in the medical and technological fields. She also serves as the Director/Secretary of the International Centre for Applied Ethics & Public Affairs (ICAEPA), Sheffield, UK, where she actively promotes public engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration on pressing ethical issues.

Piyali’s editorial expertise extends to her role as Series Editor for the Ethical Dilemmas in Philosophy series, a part of the Public Philosophy beat at the American Philosophical Association’s blog. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Philosophy, specializing in reproductive ethics and bioethics, from the University of Calcutta. Additionally, she is an alumna of the Woolf Institute, Cambridge, where she studied interreligious understanding and religious communication. Her research contributions span internationally acclaimed journals and books, including "The Routledge Companion to Indian Ethics – Women, Justice, Bioethics, and Ecology", published by Taylor and Francis.

Beyond her research and editorial work, Piyali is a Research Group Member of the Centre for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) in Washington, USA. Her commitment to bioethical issues, particularly concerning reproductive autonomy and medical ethics, has positioned her as a thought leader in the field.

Piyali believes in using her expertise to drive meaningful societal change, particularly in women’s healthcare and reproductive rights. Her work challenges conventional ethical norms in medical practice, advocating for improved policies and awareness in human and women's health care. Her vision includes fostering greater public dialogue on bioethics and ensuring that ethical considerations keep pace with rapid technological advancements.
